With the harvest season in full swing, we are pleased to announce our 2nd annual Farm to Table Benefit Dinner this Friday, October 4 at 6:00 pm at Jackson Stables in Kirksville.
The four-course, locally grown meal will be catered by Seebree’s Restaurant of Greentop, MO. All proceeds will go to benefit the Green Thumb Project and our outdoor education programs in Northeast Missouri.
Get your tickets early! Last year, this was a sold out event, and we intend to keep the tradition running. Purchase your $25 tickets ahead of time at the Kirksville Chamber of Commerce office on N. Franklin St., at Sebree’s Restaurant in Greentop, or and the Saturday farmer’s market this weekend where you can find us at the GTP table. Remaining tickets will be available at the door.
Our fundraising efforts this fall will go toward the supporting our current programs, hiring Staff and an AmeriCorps VISTA for next year, and expanding our programs into new venues and partnerships within our community.
Recently, the project has organized hundreds of volunteers to build a new, 2,400 square foot garden at the R-III Kirksville school district campus. Lessons have been hosted at the garden for every school in Kirksville, ranging from biology to math, english, and music. This summer, we hosted 157 summer school students at our garden, piloted a “Seed to Plate” summer camp for Jr. High students, and continue to develop and improve our after-school “Garden-Club” program at Ray Miller Elementary.
In addition, we have developed several new partnerships with organizations throughout Kirksville, including The Kirksville Housing Authority and the NEMO Community Action Agency. The Green Thumb Project has also built and installed 20 garden beds at Village 76, and has taught gardening while servicing elderly, disabled, and underprivileged residents of Kirksville.
